Monitoring

In recent weeks, we have explored the importance of having a clear vision for any purpose. Further to this, we have noted that the empowerment of oneself and each other enhances the whole process of collective vision. This only improves the potential to reach the ultimate purpose that is set out. This purpose or goal is often broken down into action points, known as objectives. In order to ensure that these objectives are completed in a satisfactory manner, certain monitoring and evaluation steps should be set up.

Let us first understand what monitoring is. Monitoring is an ongoing process that uses a holistic collection of data on specific indicators to provide main stakeholders with an indication of the achievement of these objectives. In comparison, evaluation refers to the systematic and objective assessment of ongoing progress and achievement of these objectives. The diagram below was set by UNODC and offers a clear comparison as how to distinguish between monitoring and evaluating.

To assist with monitoring and evaluation activities, an organisation will develop a plan. A monitoring and evaluation plan is a document that tracks and assesses results of each objective. Resonance Consulting Services can assist you with developing a monitoring and evaluation plan and rolling it out for you.
